Neil’s Blog

“One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” These famous words crackled their way to mission control just as Neil Alden Armstrong became the first man to set foot on the moon. But Neil’s story does not end there; he went on to become an accomplished test pilot, aerospace engineer, naval aviator, and university professor. In fact, Neil became a figure so large in American and world history that generations from now people will still be talking about his accomplishments.

This was our inspiration for Neil’s Blog.  When we at Ahimsa House make positive strides, like hosting an outreach event to increase community awareness of our services, Neil is there to remind us that our steps are not so small.  Check out what we’ve been up to!

December 13, 2016

Where did the year go? It feels like just yesterday we were anxiously awaiting spring’s arrival, yet here we are all the way at the end of 2016! While we still have one big event left this month, I wanted to take a moment to update you on all the places we’ve been and friends …

July Outreach Update and Walk, Wag, N’ Run!

July 21, 2016

Hello everyone! I hope you’re all enjoying your summers! After a quick vacation, I am back to work and preparing for the busy fall ahead of us. The summer lull has afforded me the chance to look back on all that our incredible Community Outreach Volunteers have accomplished so far in 2016; since January, they’ve …

Spring Outreach in Review… So Far

May 12, 2016

Hello fans of the Ahimsa House Community Outreach Program! Where did the time go?! One minute I was suffering from cabin fever being holed up in the office for months, and suddenly here I am with thirteen counties, ten festivals, six presentations, and a Gala under my belt! Good thing I’ve got my spacesuit on or …

Hello friends! I hope you are all having a fantastic year so far. I am slowly emerging from my winter hibernation with some fun updates to share. First of all, I’d like to introduce my new friend, Diego. He is an adorable brindle and white mutt that lived at Fulton County Animal Services until his …

Saving the Best for Last: November Outreach Update & Fall in Review

December 8, 2015

Hello fans of the Ahimsa House community outreach program! Now that the fall outreach frenzy has concluded, and it is decidedly too chilly to table outside (even though the sun is deceptively bright!), I want to take a moment to reflect on what we have accomplished. We have had a hugely successful outreach program, utilizing …

October Volunteer of the Month + 4 Weekends Left!

October 20, 2015

At this moment, looking forward at the calendar, there are only four weekends of outreach craziness left. The weather is cooling (too rapidly for my tastes, if we’re being honest) and we may be bundling up, but the fall community festivals are still going strong and a lot of fun! Since the beginning of September, …

October 2, 2015

October is here, and that means we are going to be busier than ever in the upcoming weekends! The outreach calendar is chock-full for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and we are so excited to join the national conversation about domestic violence and come together in awareness. #DVAM kicked off on the first with the Domestic Violence …

THANK YOU to our incredible partners!

September 18, 2015

Welcome, readers! The Ahimsa House outreach program is a testament to the importance of community. Even with a small staff, we are dedicated to having a strong presence at rescue events and weekend festivals of all sorts because we know that without our community, we wouldn’t be able to assist victims of domestic violence all over Georgia! …

FALL OUTREACH KICKOFF!

September 2, 2015

Hello Ahimsa House followers! Neil here coming out of my long summer siesta. It’s been muggy! It’s been thunder-y! And whoo, it’s been hot. I’m pleased to announce the beginning of our busiest outreach season of the year. As the temperature drops, the number of community festivals rises drastically, and already September and October are looking …

Exploring New Terrain: Cordele Watermelon Arts and Crafts Festival

June 30, 2015

This weekend Neil and I took a trip down to Cordele, GA to host an Ahimsa House booth at the Watermelon Arts and Crafts Festival. “What do watermelons have to do with domestic violence?” you may be wondering. Yes, it’s true that a lot of events we attend are explicitly pet-themed– rescue-paloozas, doggie fashion shows, and …

Spring Outreach in Review

June 17, 2015

Earlier this week, we updated the map in our conference room. Nine counties were filled in pink, our 2015 color: Gwinnett, Hart, Appling, Coweta, Barrow, Rockdale, Camden, Polk, and Crawford. This month has been incredibly busy, and at our peak we were providing care to 51 pets at once. That’s incredible! Now that it’s getting really, …

Hi! I’m Neil.

June 4, 2015

Many of you are probably familiar with my little plush face already. I’ve been hanging out in the Ahimsa House office since 2009 or 2010, cheering on the staff as they color in the map. You know, the map of Georgia, that whole big place that we provide services to? Yep, every time we get …
